A longtime, Pittsburgh family-run pizzeria -- and a favorite neighborhood spot -- is Pietro's -- a charming carryout shop (Pietro's also delivers) on West Ingomar Road in the North Hills. Pietro and Lucia Servagno (along with their sons, Pete and Danny) have been in business since 1992. Pietro came to the States from Calabria, Italy, in 1967. His wife, Lucia, makes everything on the menu from stratch -- dough, sauce, meatballs; they even grate the high-quality cheeses that come from Verona-based Lamagna Cheese Co. All the ingredients are fresh and local. The secret to their delicious pies? "The recipe is very similar to the pizza I ate growing up in Naples, Italy," Lucia says. In the summer months, Pietro picks his own vegetables from nearby farms and chops everything by hand. The result is a fresh, Old-World pie that keeps customers coming back for more.
